Halyard achieves Special Mention in DAME Awards for PureGen
Halyard Marine, Europe’s largest designer and manufacturer of specialist marine exhaust systems has achieved a Special Mention in the highly acclaimed Design Award for Marine Equipment (DAME) for its revolutionary PureGen soot cleaner.
The prestigious DAME Award is for design excellence and takes place every year at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam. This year over 132 products from across the globe were submitted. PureGen was entered in the Machinery, Propulsion, Mechanical and Electrical Systems and Fittings category and was one of only two products to achieve a Special Mention.
PureGen is the first ever soot cleaner dedicated specifically for marine generators. All boat generators will emit soot, which emerges from the exhaust outlet as unsightly and smelly smoke. The remaining soot will be ‘scrubbed’ from the exhaust gas by the exhaust system’s water separator, and washed into the surrounding water. The soot floats, and will leave a blue sheen on the water’s surface, which is easily deposited onto swim wear and the skin during swimming. Even more seriously, the sheen of the water’s surface is raw pollution – breaking the law in most countries, and causing huge offence in coastal areas of particular beauty. PureGen resolves this by removing 99% of soot from a generator’s exhaust outlet, and from the cooling water flowing from the exhaust gas water separator. Alongside this, PureGen removes the bitter smell from exhaust diesel fumes and transforms this into a much more acceptable odour, similar to that from a propane fuelled engine.
James Grazebrook, Managing Director at Halyard said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that our efforts have been recognised with a Special Mention in the DAME Awards. We’ve all worked extremely hard to ensure that Halyard continues to develop innovative products to benefit the marine industry. PureGen is the result of the hard work and dedication of the entire Halyard team.”
